What a wonderful gala we had at the Weber’s Inn Grand Ballroom, celebrating the Pillars of the House. As eloquently described by board member Kevin Graber, the House’s Pillars are our Volunteers, Clients, Donors, Churches, and Businesses. These pillars are founded on our core values being community, dignity, hope, support, and compassion. Below are some other highlights of the evening:

  • Board President and house manager Mary Danforth brought welcoming remarks and provided history and background about the House.
  • Board secretary Jean Bush-Bacelis deftly managed the program as the gala’s MC.
  • Dr. Gary Evans very eloquently recited the “House by the Side of the Road” poem.
  • Former client Dean Espinoza told his story of how the volunteers and services of the House were so helpful to him when he needed clothes for a job interview; for the banquet he wore a tie which he had previously gotten at the House. Dean is now a realtor with Keller Williams and he pledged to help financially support the House in the future.
  • Our silent auction was amazing with significant donations from a number of community partners/vendors (see silent auction donors below), and we raised over $18,000.
  • A raffle was held to raise money to buy new underwear for our clients, and we were able to raise $400 for that effort.
  • Awards were presented to volunteers Carole Hunter, Prudy Dittmar and Carole Starnes in appreciation for their many years of service.
  • Wonderful music was provided by Five Miles More, a local band.
  • The food and the service, provided by Weber’s was excellent – especially the desserts!

Overall it was a wonderful celebratory night. Many thanks to our sponsors – Ann Arbor State Bank and our landlord Bob Ufer. Our valued Silent Auction donors were:.
